Irish Trainer Jessica Harrington won her first Irish Grand National when
favourite Our Duke won the big race at Fairyhouse in county Meath .
Last month Harrington won the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Sizing John
also ridden by Robbie Power .
"These are all firsts for me - it's not bad for a 70-year-old," said Harrington,
whose horse, ridden by Robbie Power, won at 9-2.
The winner is owned by the Cooper Family Syndicate which comprises Sloane, Nigel
and Billy Cooper, their sister Hazel and her husband.
Thirteen of the 28 runners were owned by Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary's Gigginstown
House Stud in Westmeath, with the best-placed being the 2015 winner Thunder and Roses
in fourth place.
Despite running in his first handicap and for just the fourth time over fences, Our Duke
never looked in any real danger and has now been cut from 25-1 to 14-1 for next year's
Cheltenham Gold Cup. The bets are on!
"This means so much to me, it's my local racecourse and I was second in it a few years
ago so this is nice compensation," said 35-year-old Power, who was riding Sizing John
at Cheltenham and won the 2007 Grand National with Silver Birch.

Aintree Grand National 2017 Beats the Bookies
One for Arthur won the Grand National at 14/1 and was only the second
Scottish horse to win in the 170 years of the world's most famous steeplechase.
William Hill stated that they took £25m in bets on the race but they are likely
to give it all back to the winning punters. The horse was heavily backed in
Scotland where it is trained by Kinross-based Lucinda Russell in partnership
with former champion jockey Peter Scudamore. The bookies lost
heavily in Scotland but hope to break even elsewhere. As most Grand
National punters only bet on this race once a year, the bookies are resigned
to their losses.
Overall the race was a feel good story. Not only did the winning horse come
from a small stable in Scotland but the two lady owners are complete newcomers
to racing as they bought One for Arthur only a few years ago.
The winning jockey, Derek Fox, was lucky to be in the race as he had just
recovered from breaking his wrist in early March.
Finally, the welfare of the horses was paramount and it was good to see all
the jockeys dismount immediately after the race and as the weather was
quite warm, the horses got washed down with numerous buckets of warm!
